Connection as Resistance

Dear WILD One,
As we find ourselves in these challenging times, I’m struggling with where to put my attention. I don’t want to (and can’t) ignore everything happening in the world, but I also know I need to take care of myself. How can we show up in ways that matter without being consumed? How can we resist despair and choose something life-giving instead?
Over the holidays, I read Living Resistance by Caitlin B. Curtis, an Indigenous author from the Potawatomi Nation, and I can’t stop thinking about it (highly recommend!). She writes about resistance as showing up differently and how it can look like presence, embodiment, radical self-love, solidarity, kinship, generosity, protecting the land… and more. What if resistance isn’t just about fighting against something, but about leaning in? What if it's about choosing connection - to our bodies, each other, our children, our stories, and the land -and letting that shape how we show up in the world?
Right now, so much is trying to divide us, but connection is resistance. Gathering together through love and difference and listening, laughing, playing and sharing stories. It's how we support each other. It's how we remember we are not alone. It's why I started Camp WILD and why it means so much to me. I continue to be humbled and grateful for the community that it has become.
And it's more than a weekend, Camp WILD is a practice - a commitment to showing up for ourselves and each other. It will always be a space where we practice solidarity as resistance, where all women, cis and trans, are welcome. It's a community where we actively explore what it means to be human and cultivate belonging - through play and fun, but also when things are hard.
Keep an eye out for upcoming FUNdraisers for the WILD Women Bursary. We are in the process of planning some opportunities to gather and connect, while also ensuring more women can participate in camp who face financial barriers due to systemic inequalities. Community care is resistance too.
I hope you're finding ways to stay connected - to yourself, to others, and to what truly matters. Maybe that’s stepping outside for a breath of fresh air, reaching out to a friend, or carving out solo moments with a cup of tea. In times like these, even the smallest acts of care and connection are resistance. Keep going. We need each other.
Yours in resistance (and s’mores),
Jenn
"Right now we don’t need you to try and be someone else. This moment in history needs people who are dedicated to being themselves prophetically, who use their gifts to make the world a more beautiful, tender place in the midst of chaos, oppression, and hate.
Invest in your gifts.
Honor them.
Find yourself.
Show up.
We need you."
